How to keep wild San Mateo animals away from your property.

The most effective method of preventing any wild San Mateo animals showing any interest in your property is to make sure that the three things that all wild animals require are not available on your property, but the reality is that removing the three things completely is actually impossible. The three things at all wildlife are after are in order, food, a dry place to sleep, and a warm place to sleep, also pretty high on the list is a safe place to sleep. Considering the type of pest you could have ranged from the aerial attack kind, pigeons being a prime example to the borrowing kind, like groundhogs is why it is almost impossible to keep every last wild animal away from your property.

And if you think I'm exaggerating then tell me how to stop a California pigeon landing on your roof or fence. Also had you stop a groundhog from tunneling into your property, yes I know about burying fences up to 3 feet deep and they will work up to a point but a groundhog can easily dig up to 5 feet deep in about 5 minutes if the soil is soft enough, fence burying will only work up to a point. Then you have other problems with wildlife, raccoons can just rip wall panels apart, armadillos will rip holes in any buried fences that are not made of steel, as you can see the major consideration of what measures you're going to take depends on you successfully identifying all of the species you want to keep off your property.

The one thing you really need to do is to make sure that most types of food are in restricted supply, like worms, or not available at all, like your trash cans. To deter all problematical species you can install motion activated sprinklers that spray the animal with water the moment it enters your property, this will also get neighborhood cats but has no real harm is done other than being wet, your neighbors can't really complain. For animals that are nocturnal and want to visit you at night another good deterrent is motion activated lights, nocturnal scroungers generally are very frightened of the idea that the predators can all now see them, and they do a runner.

If you believe you are about to have a problem with some wild San Mateo animals you are better to take a proactive attitude and go on the offensive before the animals will actually arrive and put you on the defensive. Every species of wild animal knows that humans are the apex predator so they will not challenge do you 99% of the time, this even applies to bears, though it is best not to test a bear.
